Who Told Disney the French Don't Eat Breakfast?

This one's for the MBA hopefuls in the audience: a lengthy management case study about EuroDisney and the company's struggles with Disneyland Paris.

In previous hullabaloo I wrote about the rides and attractions in Disneyland Paris, and I think I may have mentioned a few dismal moments in the park's history, such as a chef committing suicide over his depression at the company's decision to cut back on fresh produce.

But I never dug into the guts of the thing and I never looked at it from a high-level management perspective. Who'd want to? Dull stuff.

Except it's not!

The anonymous person who wrote (or posted) the EuroDisney case study on MBA Knowledge Base turned it into a reasonably thrilling tale replete with Disney's failure to fully understand the French culture: many French, it seems, regard EuroDisney as an egregious example of 'American imperialism' and look upon Disney characters with 'scorn'. Yet they love Jerry Lewis. Go figure.

In another example - this one rather funny - Disney executives believed the tall tale that 'Europeans don't eat breakfast' and in 1994 reduced the breakfast options available at the park. You can guess what then happened: the French lined up for breakfast.

The case study is full of these tidbits. Enjoy it over breakfast.
