Corn Dogs Return to Disney's California Adventure
Disney has several iconic food items sold from carts, including turkey legs, egg rolls, and the lowly corn dog. They'd be crazy to stop selling these items.
In June 2009 Disneyland's California Adventure went cold turkey leg on corn dogs when the aptly named Corn Dog Castle shut its gate and filled the moat (hopefully not with the grease in which they deep fried their dogs).
Just a few weeks ago, according to the OCRegister's Nancy Luna, corn dogs returned to the California Adventure at a little stand in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot called Award Weiners. I'd rather get a corn dog at the castle than a weiner in Hollywood, but desperate times require we take our weiners where we find them.
The Corn Dog Castle will return but not until 2011 when Disney finishes its work on the California Adventure's new Paradise Pier area.
So what's the big deal with corn dogs? They're on a stick, for one, and anything on a stick (as opposed to a shingle) can be eaten with one hand leaving the other hand free for a turkey leg. And they're deep fried, a technique which brings excellence to any food product, especially if you're attending county fairs in Texas where lately they've begun deep frying chunks of batter-rolled butter.
Most important, though, the Disney corn dog is supposed to be there. The removal of the necessary is a barometer of bad times. Now all Disney has to do is bring the empanadas back to the Magic Kingdom's El Pirata y El Perico and life'll be good again.
