Whoopi Goldberg Throws Down on Disney
If you've had 16 babies at one time, Whoopi's gunnin' for you
by Bob McLain
Let's have some fun this morning.
Whoopi Goldberg launched a televised tirade yesterday on 'The View' about the evils of baby carriage pushers and scooter drivers at Disney World.
Whoopi Goldberg, of course, is well-known for her supporting role in 'Ghost' back in 1990, and for her recurring role as an alien on numerous episodes of 'Star Trek: The Next Generation'. She has since settled in quite nicely as resident liberal curmudgeon on 'The View', a show I avoid as avidly as its viewers likely avoid my normal morning fare, Howard Stern.
But since Whoopi talked Disney yesterday, I lent an ear - and immediately asked for it back, with interest.
Said Whoopi: "Everybody apparently in Orlando at Disney World has 16 babies at one time. So, they have these multiple baby carriages!" The audience roared its approval and her co-hosts snickered. (The show's casting agent stroked his goatee and thought how a woman who had 16 babies at one time would be the best 'View' guest, EVER.) Despite three husbands, Whoopi has had only a single baby, a daughter, who has since had three babies of her own, more than enough to justify one of those multiple baby carriages.
Was Whoop done? No! The comedy kept comin'...
Said Whoopi next: "People who overeat ... who are on those damn scooters, who don't care if you are walking too. They come up, 'Vroom! Vroom!' And they honk at you like they're pissy!" Well, judging from Whoopi's ample frame, she doesn't miss many meals herself, but she did miss the obvious: most people on scooters at Disney World are disabled. They often are pissy - gotta give it to Whoopi on that one - but typically they don't honk; they just run their scooters into the back of your legs.
If you asked each person in a scooter at Disney World what they'd most like to do, I bet the answer would be 'to get out of this damn scooter'. Some 'scooterists' are aggressive and try to parlay their condition into entitlement but in my experience most are simply there to enjoy a day at the park. The problem with Whoopi's observation that scooter drivers "don't care if you are walking too" is that they're not walking (Whoopi got a tad confused over that one). I wonder if any motorists or pedestrians have lodged similar complaints over Whoopi's personal bus (she's afraid to fly) which probably also goes 'Vroom! Vroom!' and has a driver who'll honk at you like he's pissy.
Funny thing is, 'The View' airs on ABC, and Disney owns ABC. Do you think anyone at Disney complained? I doubt it. At the end of her rant, Whoopi remembered who signs her paychecks and yelled "I love Disney", which makes everything alright.
Too late, though.
I'm sure there now exists a Facebook page for moms who push multiple baby carriages and for deranged scooter drivers to mount a 'Whoopi Watch' in Orlando.
In a pursuit through Fantasyland of Whoopi Goldberg by pissy scooter drivers, there are no winners.
