Vinylmation My Way

About the Column

The real action in Vinylmation these days is creating your own. Disney sells blank Vinylmations for you to craft into virtually anyone or anything. Thousands of these custom creations exist. Some are, well, it's best not to say what they are, but many are outstanding: often as good as what you can buy from Disney. We're rounding up the best custom Vinylmations and presenting them here, three times each week, with a word or two of commentary from their designers.

Chuckles

Here's a little quiz for you. Think of Toy Story 3. Think of the characters. Now name five of them - fast! Buzz, Woody, sure, everyone knows them. But did anyone remember Chuckles? When it comes to Vinylmation, Disney didn't; but Tayner did!

A couple of weeks ago, Tayner presented his custom Oswald. Not one to rest on his laurels, Tayner went right to work on a new custom: Chuckles, the clown from Toy Story 3 who didn't have much of a chuckle but did have a pretty big heart.

Here's Tayner with the story of his custom:

So here is my second attempt at a Disney character!

Chuckles: Back

I made Chuckles, one of the lesser-known stars from the Disney-Pixar animated film, Toy Story 3. Chuckles was a much more complex design than Oswald, which you may remember from last week, but I think he turned out rather well.

I got the idea for Chuckles while sitting in my room one day, wondering what to do with a black Create-Your-Own vinyl, when my gaze fell upon the Toy Story 3 poster on my wall.

I thought: "Which of these characters didn't they do in the Toy Story Vinylmation Series?"

Then it hit me: Chuckles! I sketched him on paper and liked what I saw...

It took me around six hours to paint the figure, start to finish. The hardest part was the yellow arms, and that was because I had to use a water-based paint since I didn't have acrylic yellow. That took me a long time to finish!

But other than that, Chuckles was fun to make. I hope you like it!

Each custom copyright its creator, which in the case of Chuckles is Tayner.
