Running with the Mouse

About the Column

Disney travel experts agree on one thing: relax, take your time. But when it comes to Disney's marathons and other running events, they're wrong. In a race, you can't take your time. And you also can't show up with just your two feet expecting to win - or even finish! Preparing for a Disney marathon requires discipline, hard work, and good advice. We can't help you with the discipline or the hard work. But Robert Mathis, owner of DisneyRunning and one of the few people designated by Disney as 'Perfectly Goofy' for his frequent participation in their running events (since 1996!), has lots of good advice. So relax, take your time, and read his weekly column.

The Mouse Gets a New Running Mate

The Mouse has been running with Robert Mathis for the past couple of months, and Robert has given him quite the run for his money, but as we turn this next corner here is Jennifer Lazzaro to challenge the Mouse anew...

The bad news, first.

Robert Mathis is taking a breather from Running with the Mouse.

Now the good news: Jennifer Lazzaro is taking over, as of next Tuesday!

Jenn runs her own site, EatSleepRun Disney, and is not only a runner herself and a Disney super-fan, but a fantastic writer, too.

But we'll have plenty of time to welcome Jenn next week. Today, let's say thanks to Robert for his fine contributions, and let's take a look at his website, DisneyRunning, where those interested in Disney marathons can download course maps and meet kindred sprinters.

DisneyRunning has a full set of maps for jogging trails at nearly every Disney resort. So, if you're staying at the Polynesian and somehow think you'll have the energy for a mile-long run, Robert's got your map, with the trail conveniently marked in red.

The trail starts at the Polynesian and ends at the Grand Floridian, in case you're wondering, and it features a straight-shot through Disney's Wedding Pavilion, convenient for engaged runners who want a quickie wedding.

The heart of DisneyRunning is its forum, which has (currently) over 160,000 posts from Disney runners. Each of Disney's marathons has its own topic, and Robert also has topics devoted to training, nutrition, product reviews, and lots more. What a fantastic resource!

See you at the finish line, Robert, but for now, we'll be running with Jenn...
