About the Column

Not long ago, pins got all the Disney collectible buzz. Pins may not be passe, but if you ask any of the multitude of Vinylmation collectors, they may be past their prime. Keeping up with what's new in Vinylmation is no easier than keeping up with what's new in pins - except, well, it is easier, thanks to sites like Greg Gaines's VinylmationWorld.com. Greg presents the most important headlines in the World of Vinylmations here in his weekly column called ... the World of Vinylmations!

Vinylmation Headlines of the Week

As summer looms, Vinylmation blooms (or is that summer blooms, Vinylmation looms?). Whichever, Greg Gaines has the week's hot headlines, including the release of Rescue Rangers, Goof Troop, and both the New York and San Francisco collections.

SUMMER VACATION!!!!

If you're a Vinylmation fan, this year's summer vacation may be a great one. With that said, let's dive into this week's news and updates.

Rescue Rangers

Today, the third set in the Disney Afternoon Vinylmation series will be released at D-Streets in Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

The set is of Chip 'n Dale aka Rescue Rangers. The previous two sets (and the next two sets) in the Disney Afternoon series have featured (or will feature) characters new to Vinylmation, but Chip 'n Dale have already appeared in Vinylmation Jr., Nerds, and Have-a-Laugh.

Does that mean they will not be popular? Nope.

By the time you read this, you probably won't get a set if you're not already in line.

The last set sold out in just a few hours.

Goof Troop

However, if you don't live near WDW or DLR, then on June 10, you're in luck.

Goof Troop will be an online exclusive.

So now everybody across the country can get up early and wait in front of a computer instead of in line at D-Street.

Cutesters

Disney also announced that on June 6 it will release the Disney Store exclusive Cutesters Like You series.

Again, we go back to the new mold and the fact that it should provide a better canvas for the artists and these actually look good, if you like the Cutester series.

New York and San Francisco Collections

Last but not least, the New York Disney Store exclusives will be joined by the long rumored San Francisco Disney Store exclusive on June 26. Both stores will release a new 9" and a new 3" in separate tins.

We can now speculate about other cities in the series. Atlanta? Chicago? Paris? St. Louis? DC?

The possibilities are endless. Now we just have to find people in all of those cities to trade with.

Autographs

This is also the summer for autograph events. Let's run through them:

  • May 27-28: Mike Sullivan, Disney's Hollywood Studios, 2:00-4:00 PM at Jabba's Hut
  • June 4: Mike Sullivan, Disneyland, 9:00-11:00 AM at the Little Green Men Store Command in Tomorrowland
  • June 11: Noah, Disney's California Adventure Park, Treasures in Paradise, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, alongside artist Dave Avanzino and Walt Disney Imagineer, Larry Nikolai
  • June 25: Chip Foose, Disneyland, 9:00 - 11:00 AM at The Disney Gallery on Main Street, U.S.A.

That's all for this week!

As always, we are just a click, tweet, or Facebook comment away.
