Perfect Fairy Tale Topiary
Every Disney picture tells a Disney story, and today we continue with our set of perfect park pics from Dan Sisneros, who certainly stood spellbound while snapping this shot of floral fantasy featuring Sleeping Beauty being swept off her botanical feet.
In the last few installments of this column, I've had some fun with the photos.
Today, however, I want to play it serious, because there's nothing funny about the stunning 'character' topiaries that Disney artists create each year at EPCOT.
How do they do it?
Each creation begins with a metal frame filled with moss. Smaller frames and wire are attached, where necessary, and the moss becomes the canvas on which Disney artisans pin plants (both fresh and dried) of various colors until the characters come to life.
Few, if any, flowers are used, despite it looking as if the characters were created from them. Plants are much hardier, and won't wilt or die so quickly in the harsh Florida climate.
Many things at Disney are magical. But these two, frozen in mid-step, are enchanted:The images in Park Perfect this week are courtesy Dan Sisneros.
