The Ballad of Skipper Dan
The Jungle Cruise skippers are kind of like the Marines, except without the guns and the crewcuts and the physical fitness. They share a brotherhood of sorts. They're damn proud of what they do, or did. Skipper Dan, however, says semper... why?
We haven't done MouseTube in a while.
Let's do one today!
In 'Skipper Dan', Weird Al Yankovic sings the story of a promising thespian whose career takes a tailspin and lands him aboard the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland where he laments:
I'm a tour guide on the Jungle Cruise ride
Skipper Dan is the name
And I'm doing 34 shows every day, and every time it's the same
Dan sees little hope for himself, no big roles ahead, and certainly has no plans for a Jungle Cruise 'tribute blog':
I should be there on Broadway, knocking 'em dead in 12 Angry Men
But instead I'm here telling these lame jokes
Again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again!
The song comes from Weird Al's recent album, Internet Leaks, and parodies the style of rock band Weezer. The video is animated, possibly because Disneyland considered carefully the value of Weird Al shooting on location and decided... nah.
