It Came from Disney!

About the Column

If Disney piled all its themed merchandise in one place, it would likely reach to infinity - and beyond. You see it everywhere: at the parks, online, in your neighbor's house. And you're tempted, sorely tempted, to make it yours: not always because you need it but because it came from Disney. For many people, that means irresistible. But fight the urge, just for a moment, until you've read what Jessica Clawson thinks about that irresistible piece of Disneyana. Chances are, she has already succumbed to the urge - and now, temporarily recovered, wants to tell you whether it was worth it.

Graduation Plush with Mug

Ever wonder why graduations are in the spring? Farmers wanted their kids home to help in the fields for the summer. That no longer matters, but traditions are hard to break, and one such tradition is the graduation gift. How about a mug... and a Mickey!

The Mickey and Minnie Graduation Mugs

In this house alone, we have had two of them in the last three weeks! Sheer madness, I tell you!

If you're still searching for an inexpensive yet cute present for a Disney grad, I may have the solution.

This past week, in an ad for Walgreens, I saw a mug with a little Mickey Doll inside. My mother thought them too cute to resist, so she bought two: a Mickey for me, a Minnie for my sister.

The 6-inch Mickey plush comes dressed in a black graduation cap and robe, and holds a diploma in his right hand. The Minnie plush is the same, but she's dressed in pink robes.

Each plush is sold inside a dark blue coffee mug which has a picture either of Mickey or Minnie on one side, and a diploma on the other. The handle, my favorite part, is yellow and takes the shape a graduation tassel. Be careful, though: the mug is not microwave or dishwasher safe.

Although these mugs bear Disney name, they're not sold by Disney, and so the quality and accuracy may be lacking. If you look closely at the Mickey doll, for instance, you'll see that it's not exactly similar to the famous Mouse.

For any Disney lover, though, it truly is the thought that counts, and they'll love that you thought to buy them this appropriately themed Disney gift to celebrate their graduation!
