It Came from Disney!

About the Column

If Disney piled all its themed merchandise in one place, it would likely reach to infinity - and beyond. You see it everywhere: at the parks, online, in your neighbor's house. And you're tempted, sorely tempted, to make it yours: not always because you need it but because it came from Disney. For many people, that means irresistible. But fight the urge, just for a moment, until you've read what Jessica Clawson thinks about that irresistible piece of Disneyana. Chances are, she has already succumbed to the urge - and now, temporarily recovered, wants to tell you whether it was worth it.

Walt Disney World Jackets

When I visit Disney World in the winter, I often see people wearing jackets when the weather, for me, is temperate enough for shorts. If you must wear a jacket in such conditions, avoid Yankee snickers by selecting genu-wine Walt Disney World apparel.

I know the summer is coming, and we do not want to think about jackets, but there will be rainy, breezy days when you'll want a light jacket to ward off the chill.

For the past several years, my family has had a jacket of choice for chill-warding, and of course, it features the Mouse.

This Walt Disney World jacket has a rain-resistant 100% nylon outer shell and a blended sweatshirt material (75% polyester, 25% rayon) on the inside. Despite the inner lining, it's not a heavy jacket, and it's perfect for damp spring weather.

The jacket is dark blue, and sports an embroidered red and white 'WDW' logo on the front next to a running Mickey Mouse. A larger version of the 'WDW' logo adorns the back, with Mickey running out of the 'D' in the logo above the words 'Walt Disney World 71' (referring, of course, to the year when Disney World opened).

Over the past several years, my sister, my mother, and I have all worn this jacket, but it still looks new. The stitching is tight, the cords haven't frayed, and all the zippers still zip smoothly.

Where can you get one?

Well, that's the bad news...

I can't find this jacket for sale anywhere on the web. The DisneyStore website and the parks sell similar jackets, but none exactly like ours.

In terms of quality, I don't doubt that the newer jackets sold by Disney are equal to the older ones, and some of the designs look very cool indeed.
