It Came from Disney!
It Came from Disney!

About the Column

If Disney piled all its themed merchandise in one place, it would likely reach to infinity - and beyond. You see it everywhere: at the parks, online, in your neighbor's house. And you're tempted, sorely tempted, to make it yours: not always because you need it but because it came from Disney. For many people, that means irresistible. But fight the urge, just for a moment, until you've read what Jessica Clawson thinks about that irresistible piece of Disneyana. Chances are, she has already succumbed to the urge - and now, temporarily recovered, wants to tell you whether it was worth it.

Personalized Disney World Backpacks

Let the world (and the World) know it's yours

Welcome, please, the new owner of this column: Jessica Clawson!

When you pack for a day at Walt Disney World, there is a laundry list of items you can (and sometimes should) bring: everything from sun screen and cameras to snacks for the little ones. To carry these things, you must have the proper bag.

I've found that regular purses or totes, when filled with Disney necessities, tend to become heavy and even painful on the shoulder after a long day in the parks. And when they do get heavy, the men with you are not going to want to carry a purse!

Also, some purses do not close and aren't fully waterproof, which means they're susceptible to water damage from those freak twenty-minute rain showers that frequent Florida during spring and summer afternoons.

A Backpack for All Things

So what do you do in this situation? Well, Disney has come up with the perfect solution: Personalized Walt Disney World Resort Backpacks!

These polyester bags are light-weight and waterproof. They come in black and in blue, making them 'neutral' enough for even guys to use, and have the words 'Walt Disney World' embroidered on the front. The letters in the word 'Disney' are each shaped to resemble famous Disney characters like Mickey, Pooh, Goofy, Donald, Pluto, and Tigger.

The bags measure about 15 inches tall, 12 and one-half inches wide, and 5 and one-half inches deep. The straps are adjustable and just over 2 inches wide, providing great support to your shoulders, and the inside is lined with an interior zipper pocket for small batteries and other things that you do not want to lose. To keep things safe, the bags have a drawstring type closure with a flap over the drawstring that fastens with Velcro.

A Backpack for All Trips

My family and I have at least four of these bags and not because they easily break. We love them so much that we keep buying more. My mother and I still have the bags we bought over eight years ago!

We use the bags not only in the Disney theme parks but also when we vacation at the shore, take day trips to other amusement parks, go on school field trips, and whenever we travel anywhere (and in all kinds of weather, too).

I have found that the lining on the inside of the bag helps keep its contents cool. I can walk around all morning on a hot day in the Animal Kingdom with my black bag, but when I open it to take something out, the item still retains its chill from having spent the night in my air-conditioned hotel room.

I can put a cold water bottle in that same black bag, leave it in there for a few hours, and yet it still has a chill when I take it out.

Very impressive!

The drawstrings, however, are bothersome. They can stick to the Velcro on the flap and, over time, the cords fray. This doesn't affect my use of the bag - it works just fine despite the frayed cords - but it's something to keep in mind.

Take It Home...?

Would I recommend this bag? Absolutely!

You can buy it in the parks or online at the Disney Store for $30.95. They'll personalize the flap for free with up to eight letters of your choice.
