About the Column

Not an minute passes without someone, somewhere, writing more stuff about Disney. I compile the better stuff in Disney Dispatch's daily (and frequently updated) Hullabaloo. But the really, really good stuff, the stuff that makes me smile when I read it, or scratch my head, or fume angrily that I didn't write it myself, well, that you'll find here, each night, usually with my snarky spin. No glass of milk. No cookie. Just a late night dose of Disney to lull you to slumber...

Good Night, Mouse for March 20, 2011

Bob looks at Allison Sandberg's do-over list, hopes to present at the first Disney Social Media Babes Conference, and tries to see the educational value in a recent photo op between Mickey and non-babe John Frost.

Do Over!

I haven't heard that since grade school: Do Over! And, of course, some other kid would yell: No Do Overs! Then all hell would break loose, with paramedics, SWAT teams, and Gary Busey in a walk-on role. No such drama with Disney do overs. Allison Sandberg of Magical Memory Planners has a short list of Disney things she'd like to do over (it follows her somewhat longer Disney bucket list). One do over with which I'm in full agreement: the Keys to the Kingdom tour. That takes at least one do over, possibly more. At the risk of being maudlin, my ultimate do overs would be turning back time and taking my kids to Disney World each for the first time, one more time.

Disney Social Media ... Morons?

MsTwixt on Technorati blogs about the 'outrage' over this year's Disney Social Media Moms Conference. Not everyone who applied was selected to go, obviously, but some of the ones who did get selected are showing their ignorance by tweeting about all the free stuff they're getting at Disney. Those Moms have no manners. And, of course, that set off the disgruntled majority who now charge an unfair, non-transparent selection process. (No outrage yet about the apparent exclusion of social media DADS). Is this really such a big deal? I've attended lots of conferences over the years, including several at Disney World, and mostly they're an excuse to drink, collect swag, and enjoy a cheap vacation. The Social Media Moms Conference is no different. It's not a freebie, either. Attendees got a discount from Disney, not a free ride. Disney, of course, sucks up to bloggers who pull in decent traffic, but again, what's the big deal? I'm waiting for the Social Media BABES Conference. I'd like to present at that one...

In Which John Frost Takes a Picture with Mickey

John Frost of The Disney Blog has a rather long analysis about the consequences of adding a FastPass option to the new Mickey and Minnie meet 'n greet in Disney World's Town Square. He makes good points, as usual, and one of them is whether you'll get a pie-face from Mickey if you show up late for your photo op. As John points out, Disney hates to say 'no'. In certain situations, however, such as a guest showing up significantly beyond his FastPass return times, Disney may have no choice but to say 'no' since it's not feasible to trot Mickey and Minnie back out from the utilidors just because some bum can't tell time. But John will tell you all about that. My take-away from the article comes at the very end. It's John himself, dressed in a pajama top I wore as a kid, and standing next to Mickey in Liberty Square. John ain't smiling. It's more like a grimace.

Mickey, were you scared when you posed with John Frost? Mickey? Mickey? Ah, too late...

Good night, Mouse!
