About the Column

Not an minute passes without someone, somewhere, writing more stuff about Disney. I compile the better stuff in Disney Dispatch's daily (and frequently updated) Hullabaloo. But the really, really good stuff, the stuff that makes me smile when I read it, or scratch my head, or fume angrily that I didn't write it myself, well, that you'll find here, each night, usually with my snarky spin. No glass of milk. No cookie. Just a late night dose of Disney to lull you to slumber...

FROM: Good Night, Mouse Published Daily

Good Night, Mouse for March 19, 2011

Bob tells the Mouse about the down-home values of Billy Ray Cyrus, the loss of Bob Iger's golden parachute, and the newest Disney (commercial) star, our very own Ashley Metz (well, maybe).

Billy Ray, Family Guy

The national period of mourning is over. Billy Ray Cyrus announced that it wasn't Disney's fault his marriage fell apart, his life hit the skids, yadda yadda. Not only has Billy Ray shouldered some of the blame, but he also announced that he's back with his wife and it's now quite possible Miley will take his calls again. We wish them peace, love, and the best possible book deal.

The Parachute Will Not Deploy

In a blow to Bob Iger and other tippy-top Disney execs, the 'golden parachute' perk has been removed from their contracts. The perk would have required Disney to pay the tax on their future severance packages. It's a perk Iger and the others would have enjoyed only if Disney offered them severance packages, which might never happen, but if it did, Disney's tax burden would have been hefty. Regardless of the tax implications or the real reason Disney took away this perk, it sends the right signal in a troubled economy that executives offered millions of dollars in severance pay will be responsible for their own taxes.

Ashley Metz is Ready for Her Disney Close-Up

Ashley Metz, who writes a weekly column here and who also runs her own site, Disney Done Right, has written an open letter to Disney World suggesting herself as the lead actress in a commercial for Let the Memories Begin. She gives ten reasons in support of her bid for stardom, and they seem like pretty compelling reasons to me.

What do you think, Mickey? Ashley in a commercial? Mickey? Mickey? Ah, too late...

Good night, Mouse!
