Keeping Cool at Disney
As summer approaches, visitors to Disney World will be thinking of three things: the long lines, the afternoon downpours, and keeping cool. Keith Anderson can help with the third. In fact, he can help you do it for free, if you happen to be in EPCOT.
In one of my favorite Simpsons episodes, Bart wins a trip to Disney World. At the end of the episode, bored with EFCOT, Homer jumps the fence into the Magic Kingdom and says:
Homer: One churro, please.
Cast Member: That'll be fourteen dollars.
While fourteen dollars is a bit of an exaggeration, it isn't too far from the truth. I have five kids, and if we're visiting the parks, it seems like every time we get a snack or a drink, it's a $30 minimum just for a few bottles of soda or some ice cream.
Club Cool
Our family tends to spend quite a bit of time in EPCOT, partly because we like to stay at the Beach Club Villas, and partly because it's our favorite park. One of the truly hidden gems of EPCOT is Club Cool, located in Innoventions West, just past the fountain and the Fountainview Cafe.
Club Cool is sponsored by Coca Cola, and features a bright, and usually empty, atmosphere in which to sample Coca Cola drinks from around the world. Fitting in with EPCOT's World Showcase theme, Club Cool is a great place to cool down and score free soft drinks. The cups are small, but refills are unlimited.
The flavors at Club Cool change from time to time. Make sure you have everyone try each flavor: some are fantastic, others are not so good. Here's the current line-up:
- Smart Watermelon (China)
- Kinley Lemon (Israel)
- Fanta Kolita (Costa Rica)
- VegitaBeta (Japan)
- Lift Apple (Mexico)
- Mezzo Mix (Germany)
- Beverly (Italy)
- Krest Ginger Ale (Mozambique)
Many guests just walk by Club Cool without any idea it is there or what it is. On your next visit, take advantage.
Oh, and try the Beverly.
