About the Column

Ashley Metz keeps a special book in her South Carolina chateau. It's called the Disney Book of Stinkin' Love. Into that book she pours her passion for the parks, her devotion to Disney World, and from that book, every week, she'll draw forth with characteristic exuberance a chapter exclusively for Disney Dispatch. Ashley welcomes questions, but no matter what you ask, the answer will always be the same, and it will always be correct: Because I Stinkin' Love Disney World!

Ashley Cavorts in Club 626

Cavorting is an excellent thing to do in the Magic Kingdom, and it's especially fun in Tomorrowland's Club 626, where Stitch holds daily dance parties open to even the most minimally mobile. Ashley Metz cavorts there all the time.

What is the most jammin' place in all of Disney World? Where can you dance like a party animal and lose all inhibition? Where can you shake a tail feather with some real characters? At the Club.

Club 626!

Located in Tomorrowland, Club 626 levels the dance floor. Whether young or old, rhythmically inclined or, well, not so rhythmically inclined, you can party like it's 1999.

I absolutely love this often overlooked area of Disney World!

Today, I will plead my case; a case for cavorting. Stick around to see my moves and perhaps by the end you'll have caught the dancing fever, too.

Exhibit A: Don't Miss Your Cue in the Wrong Queue

We are all guilty of this infraction: hurrying to get to the next attraction.

Trust me, I know. When in full-on Disney mode, fueled with the ferocity of a mall walker, I have booked it from Adventureland to Tomorrowland in 5 minutes flat. When you are on a mission, sometimes it is hard to slow yourself down.

There are probably a lot of us who have walked by Club 626 during a full swing party, writing off the commotion as a 'kiddie' thing. In fact, the first time I paid any attention to Club 626 was last June during the Summer Nightastic.

I had an agenda that night.

I wanted to see the fireworks show for the first time, I wanted to see the Main Street Electrical Parade, and I wanted to ride a handful of rides. Carousel of Progress was next on my agenda. As I queued for the Carousel, a beat from nowhere began to take over my feet. It started in slow, but soon I was full-tilt grooving to this unknown music.

Pluto in Da House!

Practice Makes Perfect...

What was it? Where was it coming from?

I had to find out!

So I left the Carousel and headed for the Club, drawn by the thumping bass of Katy Perry's 'California Gurls'. Stitch, Goofy, Chip, Dale, and Pluto were dressed in Tomorrowland gear, and they were hamming it up as the DJ called out dance moves. Each song got better and better! The YMCA, Thriller, and even... JUSTIN BEIBER (not really a fan, but you cannot deny the inner teeny bopper inside you).

I was striking a pose and joining the conga line. I couldn't help but notice, as I danced away the hot Florida summer night, that some people weren't joining in the fun. What in the haystacks? This is Disney World! It's okay if you look foolish - Goofy is leading the conga line, for Pete's sake!

Which leads me to Exhibit B:

Exhibit B: Don't be a Wallflower

Don't be a wallflower. EVER.

There is too much fun to be had, especially at Disney World! If you can stand cross-armed and blank-faced while watching Stitch do Elvis, then you, my friend, might not belong in Disney World.

A frequent excuse of a wallflower is "I can't dance". Allow me to rebut.

At Club 626, they teach you the moves. Seriously, the DJ and your favorite Disney characters break it down step-by-step. My personal favorite is 'Blame it on the Boogie' by the Jackson 5. I love to dance, and these moves are simple enough for everyone to catch on quickly.

Trust me, with all the coaching, you got this, Mr. Bump on the Log!

Plus, they play party-starter favorites like the YMCA, the Cha-Cha Slide, and the Electric Slide.

So there. No excuses. Get out there and lay down the boogie tonight!

Finally, let's take a look at Exhibit C:

Exhibit C: Fill Your Dance Card with Character(s)

So now you have absolutely no excuses. You have the knowledge of Club 626. You know that the infectious beat of pop-filled bass isn't something you should miss. Don't let your time at the Magic Kingdom pass without filling your dance card with a few characters. Yes, you can ride your rides and see what you want to see, but save the last dance for Goofy!

You won't regret it!
